Treasures from Materialpool

Materialpool/Textilhafen is a project by Berliner Stadtmission, located at Storkower Str. 139D
10407 Berlin

If you’re a textile enthusiast like me, Materialpool / Textilhafen is an absolute paradise you simply can’t miss. I can’t help but call it a haven for textile designers, and every visit leaves me more enamored with this treasure trove. In the last of the old buildings at Storkower Straße are enormous containers meticulously organized by category, featuring an array of items such as bedsheets, tops, trousers, jeans, vintage pieces, knits, and more.

What I truly adore about this place is the ease with which you can discover precisely what you need. Yet, it’s almost impossible not to be drawn to the other textile treasures that beckon your attention. The systematic arrangement of yarns and fabric remnants, sorted by color, is nothing short of a delight. And, as if that weren’t enough, you might just stumble upon some sewing essentials like buttons that could elevate your creative projects.

Keep in mind that this textile haven opens its doors only two days a week, so it’s crucial to plan your visits accordingly.

In my most recent excursion, I stumbled upon a bundle of old towels, and inspiration struck immediately. I decided to give them a new lease on life by crafting a pair of shorts. This project perfectly encapsulates my passion for upcycling and turning the old into something wonderfully valuable. While I don’t consider myself a seasoned seamstress, Materialpool/Textilhafen has a way of inspiring creativity even in someone like me.
